Recenly, an internal memo by Garlinghouse a top exec in yahoo, created quite a stir in the blogosphere. The memo was a look at the Yahoo’s current standing and also an insight into whats goign wrng inside yahoo and what should be done to prevent it. There have been a lots of activity in the Yahoo camp with some of its top execs leaving the company. Garlinghouse has mentioned in the memo saying employees have become lethargic, yahoo has put its hands into many things and so on. He also goes on to mention that in the mashup craze and acquisitions, yahoo has many parallel sites offerign the same service like flickr vs Yahoo photos , or yahoo 360 against Hi5.
The memo also mentions the loss of vision in yahoo and also problems with the senior management who are confused with the goals of yahoo as a company. Apart from these points, he suggests cetain steps that could help get things back in order. He suggests a 15 -20 % layoff..
Lot of people have criticized Garlinghouse for being the Jerry Maguire of the valley, some even believe that Garlinghouse himself leaked teh memo, in order for some recognition. If Yahoo really considers it then he is the hero, and if they dont then he gets the credit for at least trying. Take a look at the memo and you will know.
